10 Crazy Blackhat SEO Tactics That Will Make Google to Hate You Forever

Has it ever occurred to you quite how many kinds of actions that you must take in order to rank number one on Google?

Brian Dean of published the 200 factors considered by Google in deciding who ranks where on the search results.

As many as those factors look, it is not quite certain whether it truly covered everything on Google's algorithm.

 And because they give their audience the kind of content that they like, their articles get backlinks and get shared naturally.

On the flip side, there are some webmasters that wants to rank #1 for a keyword by hook or crook. These kind of people are said to be practicing "blackhat SEO".

Every single kind of the ranking factors is deliberately "overdone" just to rank high fast. As a result of those aggressive tactics, Google might eventually sniff out their site and punish it.

In this age of technology, SEO is no child's play. This is because it determines wether your business gets seen or not. If you don't want your business to close shop because nobody is visiting your website, getting on page one should be your #1 priority.

So, whitehat SEO is the recommended method of climbing the stairs of most search engines. However, you should know that there is a very thin line between whitehat and blackhat SEO.

If you are ignorant, you can easily step over the boundary. And in this article, I am going to list and explain what and what is involved in each so that you wouldn't make the mistake.

1. Excessive Use of Keywords on a Web Page.

SEO is a game of keywords. That much is clear to everyone including a noob. And since the web was born, search engine algorithms had always recognized the number of times a keyword appeared on a page as a sign of relevance.

This was still the case even after Google introduced the concept of making a page relevant with links.

Some "get rich quick" experts capitalised on this to unleash the terror known today as "keyword stuffing" on the internet. If they wanted to rank for a particular keyword, all they needed to do was to repeat it a ton of times. Of course, that was not improving the users' experience but they don't care at all.

Even those that managed to write a very reader friendly and engaging content ending up filling the title tags, descriptions and captions of the images with a lot of words that are "unnatural".

Thankfully, Google became smarter.

They began to understand how a normal conversation looks like and what's being discussed. With that update, there was a total clean up of pages that mentioned their target keywords several times within the text.

These days, when you do a Google search for any term, the websites on top are normally those that wrote about something the user wants in an engaging way.

2. Hidden or Invisible Texts

Relevance is the key. If someone visits your website and he or she couldn't find exactly what they are looking for, they will instantly bounce off.

At a time, when web site designs started becoming more advanced, clever search experts began to hide text in the site design.

Why would they do it? I hear you ask.

The purpose of this is to get more traffic even though those people might not be interested in what they have to offer.

They will change the color of the text of hundreds of unrelated keywords and make it to match the background of the website.

This will make the users not to see it. But bots will discover those words and rank them for it thinking that they are relevant.

That was then. If Google catches you doing this tricky business, they will bury your site.

3. Click Fraud

Believe it or not, the click through rate (CTR) of a website is actually a ranking factor.

Rand Fishkin proved this beyond all reasonable doubt in the crowd sourced experiment he performed during the Super Bowl.

If you don't already know, click through rate is the number of people who clicks on your website for a particular keyword compared to the total number of people who searched for it.

The higher the click through rate, the higher your rankings and vice versa.

Some people began to abuse this. They built bots that will automatically be clicking on their website from the search results.

But that tactic wasn't very successful for them.

This is because of the fact that Google had mastered the tracking of clicks since 2003 when they launched their website monetization platform called AdSense.

They distinguish between authentic clicks and click frauds.

So if the bot you built cannot trick a Google AdSense code, then you wouldn't be very successful on influencing the search results with it.

Your best bet is to be very user focused while writing the meta titles.

Whatever you do, make your titles unique and click worthy.

4. Stealing Other People's Contents (Duplicate Content)

To show you how serious this was, Google had to roll out an update on their search algorithm called Panda.

Before that, when you search for something on Google, you might discover one or two websites ranking very well with the same content.

It got to the point where the duplication of content became automated.

When the contents of one website is transferred to another website automatically without making any kind of changes at all, it is referred to as scraping.

The original creators benefited way less than those who copied.

This is because those copycats always have high number of backlinks.  And in those days, that's all you need to push your site ahead of others.

Nowadays, this will get you penalized from the get-go.

You shouldn't even copy a line if you want to get found on the SERPs.

Panda is so intelligent that once it finds a wall of text that is completely or partially similar to something found elsewhere on the web, your website will instantly fall into their bottomless pit.

5. Private Blog Network or Link Farm

All things being equal, the more links you have, the higher you will rank. Knowing this, those who have a lot of money to spend started buying domain names in bulk.

Their main purpose is to create a web ring or network where they can easily generate back links with the snap of a finger.

These artificially inflated backlink profile will make them to look like they are popular in the eyes of Google. With time, the effectiveness of this reduced gradually as Google became smarter in sniffing out those link networks.

There are some features of a site that is part of a private blog network. One of it is the complete absence or very little social media presence.

Most real websites have a Facebook and Google plus page with which they engage their fans. Another one is low traffic and high bounce rate.

They also have low quality content that is produced for the sake of the search engine bots only.
Finally, they have lots of spammy inbound links and lots of outbound links to the websites that they want to rank.

6. Fake Social Shares

There has been a lot of buzz in the content marketing community on whether or not the social media share data of an article is part of the ranking factors of Google.

Even without reading lots of case studies and success stories of people who got page one rankings with that only, I had already believed that it is possible.

Here's why? According to a research, about 60% of all the contents on the web had no links whatsoever.

And lots of those contents are awesome. But because they don't have links, they don't get seen by people who didn't visit the website directly.

However, since some of them get shares, it shows Google that this is the type of content that people like.

Therefore, it makes sense for Google to rank those websites based on social data alone.

Sharp folks quickly created bots that quickly share their articles multiple times on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ along with fake profiles.

Even when users are real, they are involved in share networks or communities which is spammy in the eyes of Google.

Right now, the big G can tell the difference between a fake profile, a real profile and those involved in social share communities.

7. Fake Branded Searches

Ranking number 1 on Google will become so easy for you if you can easily understand the big jargons used on most Google Search Patents.

There was one that Rand Fishkin of Moz interpreted to mean branded searches. If a lot of people search for information on Google and add the name of your website at the end.

Google's Entity Identification will associate that keyword with your website.

The next thing that you will notice is the dramatic increase of your position in the search engine result pages.

Blackhat experts took action, they built bots with IP switching features that sent automated queries to Google.

Google took action, they began to limit the number of "successive searches" you can do without being signed in.

And they punished sites that got an unnaturally high number of branded searches by users that are not logged into their Google accounts.

I think that I speak for everyone when I say that I love case studies or researches.

And it becomes even better if they are controversial, ground breaking and thoroughly done.

According to Brian Dean of Backlinko, this type of content can generate backlinks without breaking a sweat.

This had been used as a blackhat SEO tactic known as "bait and switch".

As a result of the fact that the content is valuable, websites that have high domain authority like universities (.edu), government blogs (.gov) and top news sources like CNN and BBC will be more than willing to link to it.

As a result of those great links from top sources, that web page will instantly become the #1 result for the keyword it discussed.

Now, this is where it gets interesting. Once it starts ranking well, those guys will entirely switch the contents of that page to another one that has commercial intent.

The product being marketed on that page is normally related to what was previously on the page.

What's more?

Even some of those big guys remove the links pointing to that page, it will still be ranking number 1 because of the effect of " link ghosts".

To fight that, Google had started monitoring and pushing down websites that completely change the contents of a page once they get to the top three spots.

9. Link Anchor Text Over Optimization

In 2008, if you search for "miserable failure" on Google, what will come up as #1 is George W. Bush's page on website.

As funny as it is, it shows just how powerful anchor texts are.

They can even change the title tag of a website when done excessively.

This was illustrated in case study by an SEO agency which changed the title tag of Matt Cutt's  website to "serp pleasers".

By now, you must have known that to rank on Google, you have to be popular (links, mentions, social media).

And what people are saying about you (anchor text) matters as well.

Following that 2008 incident, the anchor texts across the web became too spammy.

Google then released an update to their algorithm called Penguin. This drastically affected all the sites that built links to their website using only one anchor text.

These days, a good SEO specialist would advise you to diversify your anchor text.

Some of them should be branded, some generic, some will be just the URL and others should be your target keyword.

Your ultimate goal should be to make the anchor text as natural as possible.

Google loves and respects authority websites.

That explains why it is possible to get away with huge offences when the content is on a well respected domain. This practice is referred to as parasite SEO.

Always stick to using whitehat SEO tactics so that you wouldn't regret it in the future. You wouldn't have to sit for hundreds of hours disavowing tons of useless links that you had acquired in your effort to rank.
